Countdown 3 was 3rd in the nation in ticket sales on www.groovetickets.com (http://www.groovetickets.com)! The other 2 shows were in California : Together as One and Go Ventures event Then Countdown 3... No other New Years event in Colorado even made the top ten, there for we had the largest event out of 48 other states!

I'm all for great vibe over highly visible headliners as a main draw, but imo you can't "sell" a vibe... that vibe doesn't exist without everyone there, so ya can't say that the vibe is going to be good enough to overlook a potentially sub-par line-up. Especially now that I generally party sober, the music that's gonna be there is very important to me. I know I'm not buying tix till I know at least part of the line-up to gauge which party's gonna suit me best this NYE.

oh, and no offense to the guys throwing Countdowns, but 3 parties hardly constitutes a history that ppl can judge you off of. Not to mention, those of us who've been out of the scene or are just joining the scene need more than just "trust us" to shell out big bucks for a party... god I miss the days of $10-$15 parties (and not just as presale 3 mos before the event)

You guys will have to forgive me. Being fairly new to Denver's scene, I haven't had the chance to witness your history, so I have to draw conclusion based on what I've seen around the rest of the country.

Where I don't doubt that in 1996 you could do it off of the vibe alone, I don't think it's possible anymore. Denver most certainly has some talented locals, I've heard some great sets and met some great people since I moved here. Because the scene is so MTV, easy access, lime light, coolness these days, I beleive in order to draw the masses you need the names the crowd thinks are cool, not good. Where I won't argue that you definitely need a safe environment people won't want to leave once they are there, some of Denver's regular venues have proven that doesn't have to be true. I'm not going to speak poorly about any of the venues, but I'm sure based on my wording of the sentence alone people will instantly start going through their and checking the good venues against the bad venues based on cleanliness, appearance, staff, and the normal crowd that they remember at the event. If I recall properly, last years Countdown was at the Palladium. Would anyone care to speak their mind about the Palladium? As well, if I remember correctly, last year's Countdown had Paul Anothy as a headliner and Mike Shiver, followed by 20 or so locals, some of which I think are very talented. All that being said, I could not attend the event last year I had my own bookings to deal with, so I don't know how the event turned out. Luckily, New Years is one of the two major party days of the year (the other being Halloween). Everyone goes out, so the chances of you getting a crowd are pretty damn good, and I hope you do.

So it boils down to building the right vibe. Is your vibe going to be better than Triad's, or Funky Fresh's, or One Production's, or any of the other companies that you would potentially be up against? Here's what I am getting at. Say you have a population of 100 people (we'll keep the numbers simple), 60 of those people are desireable, 40 aren't. In this scenario there are 4 production companies throwing parties, all jockeying for the same group of 100 people. The mathmatic breakdown is pretty easy to figure out: The company with the most attractive party will draw their share of the population first, which either give them the ability to turn the undesireables away or forces them to because of heaed count and safety. That means that share of the population will go to the next party, then the next party, nd so pn until they've found a place to party. Let's face it, the Palladium doesn't REALLY have the best track record for the people that go there, which dictates that you'll need something else to draw them in. If I go off of the line up from last year, and compare it to say Triad's line up from last year, you stand a good chance. The point of the new years party is to spend as little as possible and maximize your proffits. One, people are already going to go out (it's one of the two super party days of the year), Two, you'll have a captive audience (once there people won't leave due to the evenings festivities like the ball drop). If I throw Soco's failure in to the mix from last year due to technical problems (a shooting shortly before the day of the event and strict policing from the city), you had an increased chance of success.

So, are all of your ducks in the same row, a better row, or have you left room for error?

I dont get what the point of the area codes thing is? I am sure it is most people have not changed numbers from moving or something to that effect (students, job change, military, etc.). I doubt everyone of those people will actually be traveling that far, not to say some that some might.

thats not the best of form guys. if anything you are hurting your ticket sales. who ever is in charge of marketing for this event, need to be shit canned. srsly tho

I know of several people they have went to prior countdowns and they made other plans cause they said they are not paying top dollar for an event that have no idea who is playing. with that being said... I personally seen you guys lose at least $100 in ticket sales before the event even started. I dont now about you but I am a numbers guy and business man. losing money on something before it happens its usually a hard to blow to overcome. chances are if your losing money before the event, what do you think will happen after the money is counted from the event?

for as soon as this event was promoted. you should have been hustlin your line up and hyping your headliners, rather then hyping the actual event. you guys hyped the shit out of pyro in kinda the same way as NYE, and did you guys make money on a night with very little competition? NYE has fuck loads of shit going on and its gonna srsly be really tuff for you guys not to lose money , unless the line up is wack and thats why your not promoting your artists.

Here is what I have to say about Countdown and I know I speak on behalf of many fellow party goers.
I am soo STOKED for this event!!! and many MANY people I know are stoked too. I have heard nothing and myself have seen nothing but good things come from SM and UB. The past events that I have gone to of theirs I have been greatly impressed with the lineups and the lights, lasers, sound, people, just all around everything Is awesome!! Im not ever worried about going to their events and worried about getting shot or my car getting broken into. I get to relax in VIP areas where they have had free alcohol with an awesome set up. The VIBE at these events are always awesome, and NOT ONCE have I been let down by who they bring out, so i am not too worried about the fact that they havent released their full lineup yet. I have already got my VIP's and so have a lot of my friends. and THE VIBE, THE PEOPLE, THE PAST EXPERIENCES IS WHY WE GET OUR TICKETS BEFORE A LINE UP IS RELEASED!!! I bet they have one hell of a full line up! and because they will probably be sold out of all the cheap tickets when the line up is released then they are going to be selling large amounts of the more expensive tickets (more $$$$$) In my opinion a smart and good promoter would be one for these events. They bring the right people and im sure that if they were hurting on ticket sales they would release more information. Im pretty sure that isnt an issue. but Countdown was insane last year!!! and even if they are selling the name COUNTDOWN that I guess would make it just as good as any other events like Global. I talked to people asking if they were going to Global and they all said "hell ya!!" and seemed very stoked and I would say oh well what headliner do you really want to see and a lot of them would say IDK but because the name Global became so huge, they sold a large amount of tickets. what makes Countdown any different?? I think all of you need to stop hating. I fully support SM and UB! You guys are what this scene is all about! so much and many thank you to you guys!! Cant wait for Countdown altho I am very antsy to know who the headliners are ;) This event is going to be a great way to start off a new year!! My friends and I cant wait!!!!!

those are just the area codes that subscribed to the contest. its great that people who may just be from that area are participating if they moved maybe they know some people from that area that would love to come to this event. i hope they do travel i love to meet new people in a great environment! :)

Ah remember when this event was posted in like June. Well I can tell you my opinion is about the same as then because I still don't know who is playing. And unlike some people I go to a noodlefest here and their because someone brings an act that I want to see. Yea it would be one thing if you guys were like we are still working on the line up. We are doing our best to put on a quality show etc etc. But constantly ignoring peoples worries about lack of lineup. It will be some mainstream trash headliners just like all of the other shows that use this tactic.....

They're probably having issues locking the big name headliners because the agents are making sure they go with the highest bidder.

I agree...how many times have we all bought tickets to shows that announced big headliners & made big promises, then didn't follow through? The headliner suddenly "cancelled" due to "a family emergency"... I would rather see a legit, confirmed lineup after the promoters know exactly what the budget is based on pre-sales & following through. Not to dig up bad memories, but remember what happened with Definition five or six years ago? Tons of amazing headliners, and the promoter lost his ass. He couldn't pay his DJ's or his staff & he disappeared from the scene. Utopia has been throwing great shows for years...have a little faith guys...

Yeah that was us. We did that and the LTJ Bukem/MC Conrad gig over at Owsley's the same night.

Have there been parties at the Motor Sports Complex before? Can't say I've ever been there, but its out in BFE NW Denver, so its way outside my radar. I like to stay a little closer to home, especially on NYE. Really too bad that they lost the Springs venue. That was like 3 minutes from my place.
