So I just installed Windows 7 on a friends computer and put the same copy of Ableton 7.02 that I have on my XP machine. I was using the same external HD that I keep all of my samples on and was unable to open a lot of my samples on the Windows 7 machine through Ableton. I got the orange box at the bottom that said the samples were corrupted or not properly licensed. I came home and they work fine still on my XP.

Granted, some of the samples I have aren't properly licensed samples but some of them definitely were. Didn't seem to matter if it was .mp3 or .wav etc. Anyone else make a switch and have this issue with Abe 7 or 8 and Windows 7?

I'm getting ready to get a new machine with Abe 8 and windows 7 but I'm going to be kinda pissed if a good chunk of my sample library is not usable.

It shouldn't make a difference if you just loading sample's from one OS to the other using the same software that they were created on. Your just trying to load wave or mp3 right?

Yeah just .wav or .mp3's. Sometimes other formats, but mostly those two. Some small files some big files etc. It seems kinda random.

The samples weren't all created on Ableton tho. (Probably very few have been chopped there) They have been amassed from many different sources. But I know for sure that some were legit samples from the same packs and some would open and some would not. Many of them predate DRM etc. so I don't think that's the case.

Abe's wouldn't even preview the samples. If everything else is the same it has to be the OS right??? I didn't have time to check if they would open in Media player etc. or outside of Ableton. I'll be heading back over there to work again sometime soon and might have a bit more info. I'm sure I can try the Import/Export thru Audacity etc. and try that, but I'm not doing that with 100 Gb's or so.

I'm kinda confused and hoping that it's just a 7 and 7 problem and not a 7 and 8 thing. I figured there's gotta be a few people on here that have made the switch, and just curious if anyone else has seen this.

Install quicktime. That should fix it.

I've come across that issue with 8.0, that I didn't have in 7.0.2... makes me wonder if there's some DRM coding in Live?

troof. i had the same problem with vista until i installed quicktime. i think if the mp3s were originally encoded on mac it causes issues. before i installed quicktime i would have to go in and convert the samples on a pc to get them to work
