REST IN PEACE OH DEAR SL1200
http://michael-lamjc.coolcats.fr/wp-content//Sl1200.jpg
“It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables,”
The DJing community and the greater dance music scene mourns the loss of a clubbing staple today. No, Steve Aoki hasn’t hung up his record bag, but rather news has emerged that iconic turntable manufacturers Technics will be stopping production on their universally loved Technics 1200s and Technics 1210s.
In a statement re-posted on dance board Global Hardstyle, the company behind the production of the Technics turntables Panasonic announced that they would cease the manufacture of TecHnics turntables in February next year, citing an increasing decline in sales as the motivation behind the line’s demise.
The Australian arm of Panasonic issued a similar statement today, expressing their disappointment that the brand’s 35 years-and-running legacy was to be put to bed.
“It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables,” Panasonic spokesman Ian North explained. “For Australia this means we will receive our last shipment in March.”
With the disappearance of Technics decks now imminent it’s becoming increasingly clear that the digital juggernaut is showing no signs of slowing down. We’ve already heard from trance icon Tiesto how he’s abandoned the ‘outdated’ medium in favour and gone for the ease and accessibility of digital tune libraries. Indeed, the new (and might we just say super-sexy) CDJ-2000s from Pioneer look to be making things easier than ever before with USB stick functionality, employed just last weekend by another digital convert Sasha.
Whilst we’re sure the classic Technics turntables will live on in the hearts of many club-reverent folk out there – not to mention in more than a few purist clubs – it’s still a crushing blow to lose the decks, and if nobody minds, we’ll be bringing beer o’clock around early this Friday afternoon.

Dead? No way. But eventually the best of the best retire, and watch while the newbs do different shit.
The argument is similar to whats better, American Muscle or Tuned Japanese Imports?

You fail, hero. This whole argument sounds exactly like the film vs digital debate photographers went through a while back. After a point, it gets to where the negatives of vinyl outweight the positives (again, like film). We might not be there yet (though I personally think so), but we will be soon.

Leave it to the internet. I wasn't arguing shit, and if anyone here is modernized, I think I can hang. Do I prefer the feel of vinyl, you bet, doesn't mean I can't play CDJ's, or Ableton, or Serato, etc.

I need to sort through all mine, was thinking about doing some old school sets, a while ago. but that would require space, and a table to set up my tables and mixer on the table

this would explain why some promoters don't even bother setting up TTs anymore. Pretty frustrating showing up to play at a show to see nothing but a couple of cdjs. WTF promoters?
Vinyl sounds better than digital just like film looks better than video...that will never change. it just suck that some tunes that are available digitally will never be heard on vinyl...
digital brown note < vinyl brown note
RIP 1200s...
glad mine are in good shape :)
mp3s and the intranet will ruin us all!!!

If Andy C only loves vinyl does that make him a phonosexual?
Sigh. Internet rumors.

UPDATE 7 - 2/12/09: This just in from the original source of the rumour:
I have some more news today from NZ on the Technics saga. It appears that the frenzy of interest and support for Technics around the world via the internet since the break of the story last week has taken Japan by surprise and caught them on the back foot – they are now back-pedalling and saying that they haven’t decided yet either way on the 1200s.

Why is this thread still going? CNET posted an article that the claim was false and a regurgitation of a claim made a year or two ago.
