so i just got a used Jomox xBase 09 from a friend in the mail. He says it worked fine when he sent it, and he did package it pretty meticulously. It fires up fine, and everything appears to work ok.... except for the start button.
I can't get this thing to make any noise. When i push all the other buttons, I get a response in the led display, as well as when i twist the knobs, so it seems to be in working order, but when i press start, i get no response - no sound from the output, no typical red lights marching left to right. That's kinda the most essential of all the buttons. i took a quick peek inside, and it doesn't look like it'd be easy to get a look at the connection, so I figured I'd ask around here and see if anyone might have some insights or be willing to swing by and help me tinker with this thing and figure out what's wrong with it.
anybody? little help? :)

could you be plugged into an aux out (like if it has multiples) that each sound is not assigned to? did you DL the manual and just read the "getting started" page? does it trigger and play from a MIDI start point instead of the start button?
hope you get it working - assuming you do, kudos. i hear those are badass machines.

yeah, i plugged headphones into the master out as well as the individual kick/snare/hat outs, nothing coming out. d/led the manual, did the getting started thing, still nothing. i think maybe the start button connection got jarred loose or something, but they don't make it easy to get at. argh.
i'll keep at it and keep you posted if there are any new developments.
at least i got it in trade for an interface that was collecting dust in my closet, so it's no big loss if i can't get it going, but man it'd be sweet to have a functional analog drum machine...

hmmm....i remember having this issue a lot with mine, maybe not the same issue for you but when it would happen for me it was always in midi slave mode...or i can't remember if they call it midi external or midi internal....it's a few button pushes to get out of that mode....barely remember the sequence but that seems right....did you get a manual with it?

right, might also try feeding it midi clock and starting it from something else...looking at a picture online and it is some combination of hitting the "enter" "shift function" and "midi mode" [step #10] buttons.....i think....
edit: no scratch that, it is probably step #11 "clock select"....try both tho
edit edit: ok yeah and also you can use the up and down buttons to select which clock mode you want....fuckit just press every button all at once [no don't do that]

any results?
and disco, i thought you had an older jomox, isn't this the larger clone of a 909 or some shit?

edit - nevermind, the ones i was thinking of are the 888 and 999. the 09 was the original from jomox that got it going though, and is still a sick little device as well. i think only the kick is truly analog though, right?

correct. there are a ton of samples built into it though. and quite a lot of tweakability built into the samples, pitch adjust, attack, decay etc.
