Who here uses it? I just bought Logic Studio 9 and would love a crash course. I'm pretty well versed with Ableton, but don't know the first thing about Logic. Eventually, I'd love to learn a thing or two about Logic and then rewire the two when I write music.
Can anybody recommend any decent tutorials? The only decent video ones I could find for free were for version 7.
I'll gladly provide smoke and beer if somebody wants to be a sport and sit down with me to show me the ropes.
:peace:

Just moved to Logic recently, I have a pretty decent handle on it thanks to Uriah.
I'm always down to hang and give a quick run through. It's a wicked easy program to learn

I switched to Logic about a month ago and I was pretty lost at first. I got a book just to get the foundations (im a book kinda guy). Then I watched a SHITLoad of random tutorials.
I am WAAAAAY more comfortable now than I was when I started.
Time warping is still something I trouble with. I feel like I dont always get the greatest results from Time and Pitch Machine.
But other than that, I cant imagine using anything else

Logic 9 has flex time. I havent tried it yet tho
What book did you get Tommy? I have read a few of them so far.

That's cause their algorithm is shite! Flex time is better in 9 but the best (cheaper) pitch & time algorithm is the iZotope Radius which runs native in Logic. If you really want the gold use Serato's Pitch n Time plug in but they want something like $500 for the plug in.
That is my biggest beef in Logic. Try remixing a dnb tune into house and the artifacts go crazy in the vocal samples.
I guess Live still has one of the better time stretching capabilities.

Logic also reads rex files. I know a few people that perfer using recycle over anything.
time and stretch works pretty good. its key to know the original bpm of what you are trying to stretch.

Logic 8 Power (im still running 8) Its more of a glorified manual, my beef was no hands on training with the book. But it flipped my knowledge base a complete 180. My workflow is WAAAAAY better after going through the book.

Ghey? Even if I own a purchased copy of serato? lol I almost just wanna do all my tme stretching in ableton, then just bring the sample into logic.

Yeah i find that pretty useful

See I understand that. I always use a BPM counter on the master of the sample Im trying top stretch. So Ideally, this should work. Just like it SHOULD usually work in ableton. But even in ableton you have to ajust and fine tune. and thats where Logic is inferior IMO. But I must still point out that SOOOOOO many things are so much better in Logic, like Automation?? Holy shit WAAY better than in live

hahha yeah for sure! you may want to do an internet search of orig bpm. sometimes even the bpm counter can be off.
I love the automation too :)
the more I have played with logic the more I can vouch that its by far my fav software to date.

Got 9 myself, nice straight forward work flow. Not a PRO by any means.

Thanks for the input, everybody. Louis, I'd definitely be down to get together one of these days for a quick run-through.
Haven't had much chance to mess with it yet but it seems like some slick software. Sound quality is noticeably better than Ableton's, too.

I'd suggest getting a surround sound system to utilize logic's ability to manipulate 5.1+ sound systems.
That part is fairly easy, I'm sure you could figure how to edit it ONCE you attempt a 5.1 setup. There is a little ball in a cut-circle.
Like a pulsating bass running around the crowd...that'd be sick, but sadly I have yet to find a surround set up at a show.

I dont know much about surround. But I assumed that feature was mainly for scoring? Do most clubs and real word scenarios have 5.1? and if not wouldn't alot of your sounds get lost in the mix if you were utilizing a surround space? I feel like it wouldn't be smart to do your mix in 5.1 because you would only get the full effect of space in your mix when listening to it in surrond.

Well, you could priority encode it to left & back left = left, right & back right = right, center = both.
I don't think anyone does that.
But if a club WERE to have surround, I'd sure as hell take advantage of it.
Imagine: Fading in a track from the back speakers then dropping it on all 5.
