I am new to cdj's. I am wondering what the correct burn speed, should be and what discs should be used? I currently burn my discs in audio format, at 8x speed? Any light on this matter would be appreciated!

aer you having problems with the cds not being read?

burn speed shouldn't matter as long as the burn isn't failing

No im not , Just wondering what everyone is doing. If I burn discs at home, then go to play out, how am I gonna be sure the discs will wirk?

Burn speed should be cool according to whatever the burn speed that your burner is rated for. Mine does 24x. 8x works fine, too... Like Rolf said, it shouldn't matter.

Does your burn program have a "verification" setting? About 95% of the time that works too. (I would say 100% but on occasion, when I have verified things, it ruins the disk and crashes Nero.)

I test cds that I burn in my car or in another computer just to be safe.

They all work, I prefer sony disk burning with nero. Don't use windows media player to burn.

dont over think it. i've never had any problems with CDs not playing on any CDJs and i just burn audio CDs out of windows media player.

i doubt you will ever need to re-encode anything.

If your worried about your discs working on the clubs equipment I think the best advice that can be given is to always burn audio CDs and not data CDs. Not all clubs have the latest equipment...

just an mp3 to an mp3. dont ask me y cuz i dont know but when i get an mp3 from beatport for example and burn it to an audio cd for some reason it does play correctly. so i re-encode them and they work great.

Pretty much what I came in here to say. That being said, it's still nice to have some mp3/data cd's when you can make use of them too, so if I were playin on cd's I'd stick some in a folder with my other cd's so I could have a little wider variety.

just an mp3 to an mp3.

*boggles* That's just WEIRD. But also, I have on rare occasion run into the Beatport mp3 not reading problem as well. Maybe the Beatport guys are making a Beatport only CDJ for clubs that we don't know about...ibeatport.

Media player format kinda sux. The downfall, it doesn't keep mp3 an mp3 and quality is slighly decreased and it won't tell you the name of the track. :(

In terms of re-encodeing... Like Heymandude said you will probably never have to do this.

i wouldn't re-encode mp3 to mp3, you are probably losing quality that way, since you're encoding into lossy format twice. i've never had a problem with Beatport mp3s using Nero to burn audio CDs.

and i never burn my CDs at more than 8x, i've noticed that anything over that makes searching slower and sometimes even makes CDs skip.

Bad idea to re-encode a mp3 to mp3. WAV to mp3, cool.

Burn audio discs instead of data discs. I have a hard time having my MP3s play on many CDJs...

I bought CDJ100s when they came out; from then (10 years ago) til now, I've always burned my CDs at the fastest speed and never had any issues. The key isn't the speed, but the quality of CD. Get some Memorex or Sony ones, but not those 50 for $5 packs, and you'll be OK.

Bad burns are caused by:

1- Your burner/drive
2- The CDs
3- The Software. Believe it or not, the freeware out there burns CDs better than shit like Nero does, because they're not laden with crap... they just put the songs on the disc.

Wow thanks agin everyone... recently I started burning everything in audio format instead of mp3. Thats good to know burn speed doesnt mean squat! Best quality discs possible, easy enough...

I have another question. How many tracks do you guys recommend putting on disc?

noktrnl

70 minutes / 10-15 tracks.

That's all personal preference. I burn four per disc.

I'm sorry but this is terrible advice.

ANY time you re-encode with a lossy codec like MP3, you decrease sound quality.

If you can't burn audio CDs with the MP3s you get from Beatport, perhaps it's your burning software that is suspect? I've never once had this problem and I've got literally thousands of mp3s from there

edit: ok looks like several people beat me to the punch on this. That's what I get for only reading the first page of the thread

It makes sense, but I haven't read/heard that before. I could be wrong here, but the etching on the CD is based on the data received, so only packet/data loss should result in a bad burn.

Ahh... it just leaves a shallowed burn, so you're not getting data loss... just a shittier burn, kinda like a crappy vinyl pressing.

yeah i've had issues with 16x or higher burned audio CDs especially with older CD decks.

on that note, I need another CDJ-100, one of mine is about to kick the bucket. anyone wants to sell? :D
