Mother Earth Sound System & CrowdPleaser present
Dia de los Muertos
with special guest, in his first Denver appearance:
David Powers (Chicago)
UberAffen, Klectik, Hej
http://www.myspace.com/davepowerstechno
Dave Powers is a forward thinking and innovative producer, composer, keyboardist, and DJ. Born in Zaragoza, Spain, Dave grew up in Michigan and programmed his first drum machine at the age of 11. A self taught jazz musician, he was playing jazz professionally by the age of 15, and went on to receive training in music composition and classical piano. His sound has been inspired by musicians as wide ranging as John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Mozart, John Cage, Prince, and Kraftwerk.
In 1999 and 2000, Dave got his first taste of the high of playing Detroit warehouse parties. These underground events turned his love of techno music into an insatiable passion. During this time, he played all-hardware live PA's alongside techno pioneers such as Adam X, Dan Bell, and Oliver Ho. He also began honing his studio skills and mastering analog synthesizers. As he continued to refine his sound, he also began branching out from techno into minimal, house, and electro.
Dave can now be found making ingenious tracks in Chicago while performing live PA's and DJing in Chicago and beyond. Dave's wide musical knowledge and studio skills make him a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, and his live PA's and DJ sets are ready for the next level. White labels of his new track, "Itikiti", have already created a stir while circulating at DEMF 2007. With several hot releases planned for the remainder of 2007, Dave Powers is set to make his mark on the global electronic music scene!
And returning to Colorado, our second special guest, also from Chicago:
Adam Jensen (Chicago)
SilentCorp http://silentcorp.net/
http://www.myspace.com/silentcorperati (http://www.myspace.com/silentcorperati)
Adam played for us at a full moon gathering a couple years ago, and we are thrilled to have him back in Colorado, this time to throw down warehouse-style!
with DJs from Mother Earth Sound System & CrowdPleaser
This party will take place in an all-new 300-person warehouse in N. Denver, just 10 mins from downtown.
Sound by Jagged.

I enjoy a bar and a keg, but plastic bottle liquor sucks. When you are providing decent booze (Svedka, Jack, etc), it's hard to break even on it unless you have a bartender and charge per drink. but on the plus side you don't get a lot of puke on the floor.
also I think you can still serve beer after 2am for donations, just not hard alcohol.

Svedka ain't Grey Goose, but it's decent. No hangover when imbibed in reasonable quantities. Same with Monopolowa. I'd rather drink them than, say, Stoli anytime.

well so far its looking like BYOB.
this is my vote because
1) no waiting for bartender
2) people drink their own booze a little slower
3) no having to tip bartender
Hence

on the plus side for the bar:
+ i do like a well-made mixed drink. or a martini. car-made drinks aren't very tasty.
+ not having to run back and forth from the car with cups full of booze.
+ not having to bring your own ice and a cooler
+ keg beer tastes better (except PBR, which always tastes bad)
+ don't have to deal with moochers who don't bring their own
- BYOB is cheaper and better quality booze
- drink slower
- whiskey in flasks ftw
- no standing in line/tipping bartender
so hmm... i think it's really up to you guys, and what you want to or don't want to deal with. 'cuz cash bar is kind of a hassle in many ways - but it also can help you cover your costs. Halloween is such a big event though, that I personally wouldn't want to deal with it that night.. but at small parties, I'm all for a good bar.
the drizzle
10-14-2009, 08:36 PM

and i am working door, so theres no hassle of running in and out. just bring a nalgene-type bottle.

for BYOB we would still provide ice & some mixers do-it-yourself style. maybe cups too. You just bring the hard stuff.

Only having beer and mixed drinks gives you guys more time to party and have fun IMHO.
the drizzle
10-15-2009, 01:19 PM
you mean mixers...hahaha!
yeah...i still think in that case there should be some sort of "keg" patrol....there's always some dudes just hanging around the keg, if left unsupervised, they drink it real fast.
the table with mixers (juice, soda, etc) and water and cups and ice will be mangled regardless, by the end of the night.
we may have to do rotating "beertenders", just so everyone gets a fair shot at the keg.
Also, to make it easier, if people would fill up nalgenes, gallon water jugs....basically bring in as little glass as possible that would be good.
and yeah, definitely = more fun time for us...

10-15-2009, 05:58 PM

folks, to keep you from having to traipse back and forth to your vehicles to refill yr byob, we would prefer if you would bring it all inside. feel free to bring a backpack, a cooler, what have you.
the less amount of people on the streets wandering back and forth, and chilling by their cars, the better it is for everyone.
we will provide lots of ice and cups.

People at the MESS parties are always very nice, so it is a pefect place for someone who is shy (and/or an outsider). You can play with glow sticks but there will be some jaded old people who will point at you. If that's your thing, then just give them the finger and tell them to go fuck themselves....(It helps to have a big smile when you tell them to fuck off too).
I should be there at some point in the night. I'll be dressed as Tyler Durden. Feel free to give me a high-five.

My costume would be inappropiate for most halloweeny parties but most def not this one. My original costume was going to be a Huge Cock and balls with a built in climax sprayer, but I would have to drag my friend around all night because he was going to be the sugar lumps and I was going to be the Pork Sword. So I made a solo one but just as good.

everyone is probably still sleeping it off..
great party. the place looked awesome - the art, the lazer, video, lots of eye candy. sound by Jagged Couch was absolutely ridiculous, rib cages were vibrated. i love how you can have a conversation in front of the speakers too, the sound is so clean.
Music-wise, really enjoyed the stuff Adam Jensen played in the morning. Dave Powers set was nice and dark, Tess played some rippers too.
great venue btw - hope to attend more parties there in the future.

Thanks soooooooo much to MESS for another incredible Dia De Los Muertos. It was just a really high quality party, haven't been to one like that for ages. The sound, the djs, the decorations, the space, sick sick sick. Great to see everyone out in silly costumes! That soundsystem...ooh my....hearing adam play on a system like that was just incredible. I can't thank everyone at MESS enough, you rock!
