View Full Version : Should I send this nasty e-mail?

I submitted my homework this morning to my business teacher because I didn't have the 20 cents to print it up. She sends me the following e-mails; Her: I’m sorry, but did we discuss me taking homework in advance and I forgot? Me: I did not have access to a printer this morning, so this was my submission. Check the time stamp to verify it was turned in before 10AM. Her: We can talk before or after class or at another time. I do not believe we talked, in advance, about an alternative submission method. Please use you LATE COUPON or REDO to submit this work. Enraged, I've typed the following e-mail, but I don't know whether or not it's a good idea to send it. Looking for some feed back. *** I'm failing to see how you are unable to accept my homework the way I submitted it. I've been in college since 2005 and not once have any of my teachers refused to accept an assignment via e-mail. In fact, of my current classes this semester and my three previous semesters here at ACC, you are the only instructor to not use blackboard or at the very least e-mail. I am unsure as to why you are not using the digital resources at your disposal to facilitate the maximum potential of achieving communication with your students when the student body and your fellow colleagues are. Why bother even putting your e-mail address on the syllabus if you don’t accept messages with attachments? I feel it is your responsibility to learn how to use the technology involved with your job as a professor in contemporary education. The e-mail I sent has a time stamp that validates when the e-mail was sent. It is a technology used by many of the very corporations we discuss in class and it’s not difficult to figure out how to use it. I submitted my homework by the time you requested it, it is typed in the format you asked for, and you just don’t have a physical copy of it? This decision seems to be affected by your unwillingness to make a few clicks with your mouse. I feel the standards you have set forth for submitting homework hinders the potential for your students to get a good grade simply because you refuse to put forth the effort and accept different forms of media for homework. We live in a digital society and to not utilize all the tools we have to maximize our education in and of itself seems uneducated. I will bring you a hard copy of the assignment I e-mailed you earlier, but it was not submitted late and therefore should not be viewed as such. *** So what do you guys think, click send, or not?

I don't know why the fuck everything is submitted as one solid chunk. I had it all spaced out and looking good, but it keeps reformatting it.

YEAH, i wouldnt send that in. maybe just say you assumed you can email homework in because its accepted in that form in all other classes youve taken and wasnt discussed that it was unacceptable in hers.

yeah, agree with kaycee here. you sound really defensive and angry in your email - not going to get you anywhere with a prof.

i'd write her back and say nicely what kaycee suggested - reiterate that you were unable to access a printer but that the homework was completed in full on time as evidenced by the time stamp, that emailed homework is accepted in all of your other classes and that you were unaware that she did not accept emailed homework. i'd also check to see if any of the docs that she gave you at the start of the class state as such so that if you need to, you can apologize for the misunderstanding once you reviewed the class syllabus.

good luck!

LOL @ Fonzie. "What's up. Crapped on your desk dawg, 'sup?" Here's the edited version; I was unaware that e-mail is an unacceptable form of submission as all three of my other professors accept it, however after reviewing the syllabus I see that you wish for it to be submitted in person. I should have let you know I was e-mailing you at the start of class. The time stamp on the email clearly indicates that I submitted the work before 10AM. I will print you out a copy and put it in your in box tonight (10/13/09) after my evening class. I humbly request you not make me use my coupon as though it was not the correct format, the assignment was still submitted on time in some shape/way/form. Better?

I vote floppy disk bomb a la the anarchists handbook. Not that the teacher probably has a 3.5 inch floppy. 1.4 mbs is delux

why even argue the point... they say jump, you say how high.. what you don't say is, i don't have my jumping shoes and then argue that jumping is stupid

keep it on the professional, even if it annoys you that the professor isn't tech savvy - just do what you gotta do to get that A

SEND IT!

Do not send it. Your second email was much better. But like everyone else said, be professional, and do what you need to do in order to get an 'A' in the class. Take this as a life lesson, because these types of things come up all the time in corporate environments, and the people that know how to effectively deal with these situations are the ones that rise to the top.

yup. apologies cuz i know there are a couple here, but.... profs are a catty, incestuous, arrogant lot - as such, if you fuck with one, they will all know about it and will not treat you fairly. the best bet, since your primary objective is to learn and get a degree, neither of which are impacted by groveling a little here, is to shut up and do what the prof asks you to do.

I'm gonna post this in both 'should i' threads, because it's equally applicable.

99% of the time when you start to ask that question here, you should know that the correct, wise, responsible answer is no...

...but we'll tell you to do it anyways, for the lulz. ;)

Don't forget to put a keylogger on the floppy disc. Then you can get the passwords necessary to alter your grade later.

for emphasis.

sucks but it's true. your pride means nothing unfortunately. in a situation like this the professor is always right, even when they're not.

She's still bein a bitch. Sent the second one. However, at the end of the semester, after the grade is in the book, I'm going to send her the nastiest letter I can conjure. I'll make sure to post it for you all.

It felt good just to write the letter, but seriously, who the fuck can't download an attachment, and is considered a fucking teacher? Bitch needs to get with the 90's already.

No no... you have to get her back ironically so she knows what she did and regrets the day she ever messed with you. Remember: leave no trace so it can not hurt you in the future.
