I think most of us have heard the various dance remixes of Barber's classic second act "Adagio for strings". Tiesto being the most famous remixer of this classic symphonic master piece, many other remixers have taken a crack at it as well.

From what I have heard of the remixes they range in bpm from 135 up to 170.

That being said, doesn't that defeat the name and intended mood of the original piece? Literally translated Adagio means "slow and stately". I hardly consider 135+ bpm as slow.

Worthless information, but I thought it was interesting.

Another bit of worthless information...

In the song "Tag Team - Whoomp There It Is", David Glenn (DC The Brain Supreme) says...

"these three words, and we're getting busy, "Whoomp There It Is"

Unless I forgot how to count somewhere along the lines, "Whoomp there it is" is four words, not three.

I guess David Glenn isn't "The Brain Supreme" after all.

If you listen to the lyrics of the song, they do not pronounce it separately.

They say "whoomp, there diz" as if it was 3 words.

Perhaps the juxtaposition of a dance beat with an otherwise slow melody produces an interesting result? I mean, if the point were simply to recreate the original, why recreate it at all? Just hire an orchestra and have them play the sheet music he already wrote.

Would you say it defeats the purpose to do halftempo dubstep remixes of punk songs that were originally intended to be mercilessly fast?
