KidsPatch: Children’s Creativity Lab at the Biennial of the Americas
Curated by: Nana Radenkovic, Relja Bobic (RS) and Kate Lesta (USA), in collaboration with Pictoplasma (DE)
kidspatch@biennialoftheamericas.org
KidsPatch is an event series dedicated to new children’s creativity presented since 2008 at numerous events in Europe and the USA. Each program consists of a series of workshops for kids (ages 5-12), related to the fields of contemporary music, graphic art, performance and new media. It is a 100% participatory program that utilizes an intuitive, inventive and forward-thinking approach to children’s creative education within the context of arts and culture.
KidsPatch: Children’s Creativity Lab at the Biennial of the Americas, a specially commissioned program and the largest KidsPatch production so far, will involve a number of artists from both American continents into creative exchanges with the youngest population. Beside setting up a special kids zone within the McNichols Building which will be open daily, the focus of KidsPatch is on customized workshops running each weekend, to be rounded up by a final parade event on July 31st, taking the young participants and their creations outdoors, to the immediate surrounding of the main Biennial location, through a special performance.

awesome - that's how to celebrate a birthday in style!

not sure what murcof will be playing, though his releases have been tending towards the ambient side of things lately - i guess we'll just have to go hear for ourselves. :)

Got to check this out last night. Girlfriend interned and installed a bunch of the art, so we got to go to this opening gala with old rich art people who made me feel way underdressed. Some of the art is ridiculous, I'll definitely be going back.

Cool story bro.

Involved with the Museum of Outdoor Art by chance?

I helped build a sculpture named WieldenBlume last month which is our gift to the Biennial on the Americas. It's down by Fiddlers green and they will be having functions there later in the month.

everything should be amazing!

some info on thursday & friday:

There are some very special shows coming up this weekend as the finale of the Biennial is approaching
Entry to the building is free to the public. The exhibition and the building itself is really special and I highly recommend taking an hour or so to walk through the building.

Here are some amazing photos from the one and only Sam Campbell: http://arrowthree.com/PhotoGalleries/biennial2/index.html

On Thursday July 29 is the lovely Morgan Packard + Joshue Ott. Below are some details on Friday's show, which I want to encourage everyone to attend. This is going to be an amazing night of live post classical performance. Melissa plays prepared piano and Zeena the electric harp. Not to be missed. Any further details I can provide to y'all just let me know!!

Friday July 30: VANGUARD FEMME

8:00PM - MELISSA ST. PIERRE
Melissa St. Pierre tosses classicism and post-classicism overboard, utilizing the prepared piano – John
Cage’s notorious instrument of choice – and electronic enhancement to sail resolutely in the direction of
rock & roll. Peppering the strings, hammers, and dampers with a variety of objects, she transforms the
piano’s typical timbre: sparkling gamelans chatter; harrowing voodoo drums call out in the night., St.
Pierre’s debut EP, features production and performances by ; together they rival famed electric harpist
Zeena Parkins as conservatory arsonists with a decidedly Hendrixian flair.
melissastpierre.bandcamp.com

9:00PM - ZEENA PARKINS
Zeena Parkins, multi-instrumentalist, composer, improvisor, well-known as a pioneer of the electric
harp, has also extended the language of the acoustic harp with the inventive use of unusual playing
techniques, preparations, and layers of digital and analog processing. Zeena makes use of anything
within reach as a possible tool with which she can enhance the sonic capabilities of her harps. Parkins
has appeared on over 70 CD’s and in hundreds of concerts in both large and small spaces all over the
world. Zeena is a sought after collaborator, performing with Jim O’Rourke, Nels Cline, Lee Renaldo,
Bjork, Kaffe Matthews, Thurston Moore, Pauline Oliveros, Fred Frith and many others.
