Last one was fun, sounded wicked, had a great vibe, was just a solid time. Glad I was able to be a part of it, was a more complicated visual system I ran that night (until Boris showed up), def was a first and looked nifty.

SRSLY. His DnB was a tad odd, but D-step seems to be perfect for him... there are few 6BLOCC tunes I don't like.

Only reason I ask RD, is because that guy has gotten MULTIPLE mixes from me and the only thing he has EVER said to me was, "OH yeah, those mixes were good, but you throw down TOO MANY ANTHEMS!"
I'm sorry, butI thought the point of "ROCKING" a party was to throw down some JAMS?!?!
............more on this later! I have to go to work!!

The point of rocking a party is to use your knowledge of track selection to play what the crowd at that time and place needs to get their fun on.
Too many djs blindly throw down their "anthem jams" with no regard for what that particular crowd is feelin that night. Anyone can throw down some beatport top 40... doesnt mean they deserve a booking.

Meaningful insight! I didn't mean to come off arrogant, please don't take it that way, I just enjoy the simple humor of asking for booking for parties thrown by RDN, Triad Dragons, whoever.. so that I can expect a "no". Keeps me humble.
I've tried the route of demos and invites to my bookings, so they can see me live and decide whether I rock a crowd or not. Although, that's why I'm thankful for the people that DO acknowledge my presence in this scene (SOB, FF, Clockwork, ONE, Sub.Mission), because they've taken the time to show me some love and give me a chance to bring my flavor to their events!
...I don't really know where I was going with this, but if Ryan cares for another demo, I will be working on one for the 15 min. contest @ the Church, and hopefully one day I'll be able to play more often than once every other month in Denver...
Word to the :offtopic:
(sorry, 6 BLOCC, for thread jacking...Hope you have fun in the Mile High!!)

inserts face into palm...
wow...um,If Ryan told you they were 'too anthemic', I would listen to him. I mean shit, he's fairly 'athem friendly' I always thought. So if he says too anthemy, my first thought is: holy shit, this stuff must be reeeeaallly anthemy. You should give a mix to Baggett and see what he thinks ;)

people still use demos to get booked? your doing it wrong man.
try kissing some ass man. that works for most locals in colo. (maybe you could just throw your own events and headline them all)
OR
try getting in with one of the crews, which at that point if your cool with playin 8-9pm on the 2nd stage just to have your name on the flyer and look cool.
99% of local bookings are ALL politics.
I dont mean to come off harsh bro.. thats just the way it is.
I have heard some of your demos thru JT, and your demos are solid. which it goes to show u that what I am saying is tru. solid demo = no booking. wack demo with a nose full of ass = 8-9pm 2nd stage. =)

Thanks for the kind words, Tommy! I completely understand what you mean by politics..
I'm also not trying to headline anything, by any means, the hard part is being down with a crew and getting booked without being able to be in Denver all the time.. Catch-22, I know, that's why I don't stress it too much and try to just go with the flow, for now.
Oh yeah, mixes are in sig for anyone interested in d/l'ing! :word:

Thinking about changing the image to MP3... I think people have gotten the idea of what it means, and it'll be easier on the eyes for flyers/logos/etc..

at the end of the day. you have to be in with the right people.
id say if you want to play for RDN. then, take ryans advise and make a new demo with less anthem tunes. Ryan has helped many many locals get their turn on stage. If you stay on him and show him you really want to play (if thats what u want out of all this). Id be willing to bed he will give you a shot.
either way... best of luck man

imo thats completely wrong... promoters dont like their asses kissed unless you're a fine piece of ass. Throwing/headlining your own shows does you no good if you cant get anyone to show up.
my advice... dont suck for one. (a lot of people miss that step) and 2, learn how to promote yourself and your events. Build a following of people that actually want to see you play. not just friends, but people who actually give a shit about the music you play and are willing to pay a cover to hear it. If you can get that worked out, bookings will come naturally. In my experience the people bitching about no bookings or having to kiss ass have failed at one of those 2 steps.
As an example. I booked an opener who had given me a demo, given me some hash (i guess that qualifies as ass kissing? i dunno), and i was still not 100% on booking him. demo was quality and fit w our style, but Ive got people in the crew that want that spot too. Then he promised me 50 people at 9pm sharp to see him play. I was like, "if you do that then deal" At 9pm dos he had 60+ people there. needless to say, I've booked him again. Getting people in the door is the business. If you can get that working in your favor then doors will open for you.
* to be safe... not trying to imply that anyone in particular sucks or kisses ass or whatever... broad general statements ;)
