![]() ![]() Pathways::To the Source Pathways::To the Source February 19-20, 2010 Our species is looking down the barrel of a gun. The community of life that we depend on for survival is dying. The water on which all life depends is now laced with toxic after-effects of industrial consumer culture. What can an individual do to counter this? Invest in renewable energy? Maybe we should all take shorter showers and xeriscape our yards. Or not. The war on nature has so many facets, so many fronts. Likewise, resistance to this war can take many forms. Let’s find a place within this resistance that is meaningful, effective, and free of denial. This event is dedicated to exploring our relationship to that, which sustains us – water, and all the places it flows through. The purpose of the event is not only to bring art to the general public, but more importantly to initiate a dialog about the critical issues facing our society, and how we, as artists, can facilitate change. The gallery show will open on Friday evening, followed by a full day on Saturday. Several people with in-depth knowledge of water quality and sustainability will be in attendance to help educate the public and discuss the issues. Some of the best local downtempo DJs and live musicians will be playing on Friday evening and during the day on Saturday. The event will close with an late-night electronic music showcase on Saturday night, featuring video installations and live art. http://www.pathwaysart.com Event location: DCCS Denver Creative Co-op Studios 425 Lincoln St. Denver, CO Featured Artists: Michael Garfield • Alora Tishok • Tony Zallaha • Ian Welling • Chris Huang • Anglea Delsanter • Arielle Brackett • Luki Pa'a • Jesse Cummins • Jason Coughlin • Jeannette Mouland • Audrey McNamara • Patrick Beery • Brian Cavanaugh • Manda Pendleton • Knotty Kreations • Kris Collins • David Hale • Mad King • Michael Grab • Aaron Young • Ocean Byrne • Launchpad • Skaadi • Artattack • Kat Dison • Zach Emmendorfer • Eliza Ross • Justin McDermott • Jessica Gross Fri 6pm-12am: opening reception music by: The Brandon Brown (Communikey) Solomoon (Ultimae Records, Metameme) Mike Grab $5 Sat 12pm-8pm music by: Sarah Foster Michael Garfield Swashbuckler and more $5 Sat 10pm-5am 10-12 - Coult45 with Echo DaFunk 12-1 - Royale (deep dub techno set) 1-2 - DMTree 2-3:30 - Animaltek 3:30-close - Tess Sound by Bass Couch $15 $5 paid towards Fri night or Sat daytime gallery show counts towards Sat night admission. Slepak (Animaltek):: Treibstoff, WIR, Flow, Electrotribe recs :: New York, NY Oleg Slepak is the driving force behind Animaltek, a techno duo from NYC that explores the wide range of sound and rhythmic possibilities for dance floor theory and practice. The wide spectrum of musical influences that Animaltek traces it's roots from keeps the listener challenged and stimulated, wanting more unexpected and phenomenal grooves over harmoniuos minimal motives, weaved with glitchy sound scapes. After a recent bombarding of live performances in Berlin, London, Leipzig and at the Treibstoff’s 11th year anniversary party in Cologne’s infamous club Odonien, where the stage was shared with Masters of techno like Gabriel Ananda, Robert Babic, Italoboyz and Marcel Janovsky, those American wonder tweakers made a serious buzz among party goers and music analyzers, representing the underground New York sound and vibe. These series will focus on experiencing cutting edge, groundbreaking art in its many forms: sculpture, music, painting, performance, video, and dance. While we believe in appreciating art, we don’t necessarily enjoy the quiet, sterile halls of museums. We believe in placing art in context – the context in which it was created. Pathways events will feature interactive art, music, workshops, and above all, a community that, we hope, will inspire its members to take their lives – and their art – to the next level. “As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.” —Henry David Thoreau Last edited by dmtree; 02-20-2010 at 10:39 AM. |

Love the way these shows incorporate so many things. Last time Christine and I went to the friday night dealio and had a great time. A bunch of really really cool art in a great space with excellent "chill" beats. People were doing different kinds of art live. It was a very "bro" art show. Quality without pretension.
The saturday night party was great too, but the friday night gig was the dark horse |

thanks Tess, that's a great review. Our focus is definitely on the art, and Friday night is my favorite part of the weekend. Saturday daytime is great too, a nice space for people and families to chill and enjoy the art in the daylight - the space looked really magical last time. I was looking at the art totally dazed for hours.
Lineup added to the main post. Woohoo for Oleg/Animaltek, last time I saw him play in NYC in November, he tore the roof off the place. Incredible energy. We're going late into Saturday night, so any revelers from SoCo area are welcome - we're only 5 blocks away. Last edited by dmtree; 01-19-2010 at 10:30 PM. |
